Could have

image I left my country. It was my choice, done of my own free will, so I guess I shouldn’t complain. But why, oh why, did I have to choose a country just as cold as the one I left?

I could have chosen someplace warm and tropical with things like sunny beaches, drinks with tiny umbrellas and lemons that you can pick from a tree in your garden.

Seriously, what was I thinking?!?

PS  To the man who was driving too fast in the snow and hit Misiu and another driver causing damage to our car and really bumming out our day, shame on you! Maybe you should move to a warmer climate too.

Chris - I am sorry that you are so cold these days and that you are having a bad week!
Many of my Polish friends think that I am crazy but I really don't mind the Houston weather. And I love it in winter:) Warm greetings from Texas even though it will be 0C tonight!

But we had hot summer, hadn't we? That should be comforting :D 2 months of nice weather and 10 rather not satisfying... ok... yeah...

so changing the subject - is Misiu ok at least? I would send that driver to Antarctic, let him eat the snow.

"shame on you"

Przyznaj się, że to nie były jedyne słowa jakie pomyślałaś :)

Thanks everyone. Misiu is ok, thank goodness. We were both just angry because the other driver showed a real lack of respect for the weather conditions and the other drivers - it was a 3-car accident. But it is just a car. Fixing it will be a hassle but in the whole scheme of things, it is not that important.

Hmmm, Florida or Texas would be nice right now and to the rest of you, misery loves company!

Of course, "shame on you" is not exactly what came to mind at first. But it was a phrase including the word "you", if you get my drift.

That reminds me of one of my English books that gives this example for use of the present perfect tense, "Oh bother. Someone has stolen my car." As I remember from my childhood when someone stole our family's car, my father, discovering that the car was gone in the morning, definitely did not start his sentence with "oh bother".

And to the Polish folks who remember the PRL era...It took me almost 3 hours to return home today. I literally stood in place for 20- minute intervals all the way home in the worst traffic jam I have ever experienced. Yes, it was (and is) snowing, but that wasn't the real problem. As I heard on the radio, the railroad crossing barrier(szlaban)close to my home went down and got stuck. After a few minutes, there was another phone call or two that drivers had taken the intiative to try to lift it to no avail. Then a phone-in from the RR repair team asking drivers to please be patient, that they were on their way but were stuck in a traffic jam. Gotta luv it ;)

It's smth like 18 deg C in Dallas today, it was around 10 C on Monday and they turned of the air con to heating already :-)
When I read about all this snow, I'm so happy I'm in Texas :-) Although snow would be fun - they would close our office!

I wonder what I will be saying after my first winter in Norway. I didn't like Texas summers, but winters were nice there.

Rinonka - 18 C? You lucky duck! I wanted to take my kids to the Świąteczny Jarmark today but it was just too cold.

Tranikowa - Probably after your first winter you'll be saying some phrase with "you" in it too. What's up with Texas? New hub of Polish immigration?

And shame on that ice that made be spin a doughnut and that guard rail that jumped out on me. Luckily I crashed the car in the exact same spot damaged in Misiu's accident. I know, I'm talented. Please, let this week be boring and without incident.
